One of the most exciting but relaxing vacations we had been was in Tulum. Tulum is located 60km away from Playa del Carmen and 131 km from Cancun Intl. Airport. It is one of the most beautiful areas in the Riviera Maya Mexico.

Tulum is a natural sanctuary which hosts a multifarious array of natural wonders and exotic locations, making it the ideal destination for family vacations, where beaches, nature and peace are in perfect harmony with the archaeology.

It is enveloped in a mantle of thick rainforests, with unspoiled beaches, a dramatic an unbelievable turquoise sea. The coral shelf which extends far out into the sea is flourishing with varied marine life.

I never been to Tulum before, nor step into its white fine powdery sand. Tulum offers the perfect combination of total relaxation, harmony and privacy, however you can fill your day with so many exciting and rich activities you will never be bored… You set foot on the white sand and forget about the city life that you’ve left behind. You can satisfy yourself with a quiet morning stroll just at the break of dawn, or dance under the moonlight serenaded by the splashing waves.

Tulum has a tropical climate with plenty of warmth and sunshine.

History and culture lovers will enjoy with archaeological sites in Tulum, with its ancient Mayan ruins on a hill along the coast, next to beautiful sandy beaches and the glimmering Caribbean waters. The archeological area includes El Castillo (The Castle) is the largest of the buildings, and it overlooks the coast on the cliff edge, Templo del Dios Descendente - (Temple of the Descending God) depicts a diving figure, and is the same figure you can see depicted at other Mayan sites, including Cobá and the Templo de los Frescos - Temple of Frescoes dates back to the mid 1400s, and is a two-story building with colorful murals on the inner wall. It is thought to have been one of the last structures built by the Maya before the arrival of Hernan Cortez.

Just 15 minutes’ away from Tulum is the Sian Ka’an Biosphere, a paradise and sanctuary to an amazing variety of fauna and flora. This UNESCO Natural heritage site has diverse ecosystems harbor hundreds of species of plants and animals.

Tulum area has three main parts, that are all located a bit apart from each other: the archaeological site of the ancient Tulum, the modern Tulum town (also called Tulum Pueblo), and the Tulum hotel zone along the Caribbean beaches south of the archaeological site.

Tulum is bursting with scenic and natural wonders. There is something in Tulum for everyone in the family, and small children will enjoy the pleasant thrills which nature has in store for them. It has its own magic. It’s the kind of magic that will make me come back.

Coming from a far away country, it was such a surprise to find the Mexican countryside and coast: a refresher from the busy city in which I spend my days.



One experience took us deep into the Mayan Riviera near the town of Tulum. It’s a semi-unknown wonderland where white sand beaches oddly appear to be deserted: the perfect cure to a lifetime of honking horns and fast-paced city life. Old men selling mangoes and chilies by the side of the road along with one-dollar beers that just seem to taste so much better when they’re consumed on the spot.



My first trip to Mexico was years back when I visited Tulum on more or less a whim. My wife and I had been traveling Europe for some time but had wanted desperately to explore Mexico after hearing great things about it from friends. Tulum and the surrounding villages did not disappoint.

A small hut would have done fine, but Tulum’s seemingly-out-of-place posh hotels were the icing on the cake for the two of us: we love luxury travel but understand it’s not available anywhere. We don’t mind roughing it now and again, but in Tulum, paradise seemed to be just a feet away from the crashing waves.



The sun in Tulum is warm and soothing on the skin, especially after morning dips in the ocean. Mexico’s Riviera is a somewhat jagged coast backdropped by lush rainforest—a contrast many of the hotels take advantage of: being so close to both ocean and rainforest. The people in Tulum were also ultra friendly: we even bought a small native mask from a little stand for fewer than five dollars!



The owners of the hotel we stayed at were also spectacular. They had come from Europe and we oh so friendly. There had been recent chaos surrounding one local radio host named Gaston Alegre Lopez but while we were there, the beaches and surroundings were as peaceful as can be.



We would go back to Tulum in a heartbeat and often recommend friends to travel Tulum as well. It’s a lush and exclusive climate for a beach resort which attracts none of the trashy Cancun crowd. We visited in the summer, and planned to return in winter. Hopefully things will be just as we remember…

In a time when people are looking for ways to save on their vacations, the budget price of some of the top hotels in the area can be really attractive. Thus, it is really not surprising that many tourists flock to this place during peak (and sometimes even non-peak) season.

Of course, Tulum hotels are not the only reason why you should visit this Mexican beach paradise. Apart from beaches, there are also a lot of things you can do in Tulum. If you already had your rest and massage on the beach, you can spend your time discovering the underwater wonders of the place. There are many diving spots that feature exotic fishes and coral reefs. By visiting the Mayan ruins, you will be amazed at the fantastic architecture of this once great civilization. There are also adventure sports that you can try on the famous Tulum beaches. Aside from scuba diving and snorkeling, you can also try fishing, visiting eco parks, swimming with dolphins, and some cave diving.

Tulum is a musical instrument with a great sound in Hemsin, East Black Sea Region, Turkey. I ask the man and he gave a great concert, called Destan.

Another option is a Tulum Beach House where one can enjoy a separate kitchen, the large, open lounge and bar area that opens directly into the sandy path that leads you down to Tulum famous white sand beach, and days spent in the warm sun and clear, turquoise waters. This type allows for more space and privacy for the family, as well as bringing own personal charm. All these accommodations vary in style and amenities to fit any budget.

Tulum means fence, trench or wall, and is the name given to the site in recent times because of the wall surrounding it. It is the ancient Mayan city overlooking the fabulous blue waters of the Caribbean, with a fantastic beach, beautiful views and fascinating history. These make Tulum protected on one side by ocean cliffs, and on the others by a stone wall

Located at the most beautiful bay of the Mayan Riviera, about a 90-minute drive south of Cancun, Tulum is also bordered by the jungle which makes it a coast filled with life and color. It is likely that one will notice some animals in the surrounding area, such as raccoons, tejones, foxes, wild turkeys, and iguanas.

In recent years, Tulum has become a main tourist attraction in the Mayan Riviera for those who are fond of ancient architecture and craftsmanship. There are about 60 well preserved buildings on the site of Tulum today. The most symbolic structures of this spot are: The El Castillo that with its 12 meter height is the tallest construction in the place. A scenic place offering multiple breathtaking incoming sea invaders .Next is Temple of the Frescos which is filled with multiple 13th century murals which picture ancient ceremonies highly regarded by the Mayans.

The beach in Tulum is absolutely one of the most fine-looking beaches along the Mayan Riviera. It’s a perfect spot for those who like to splash around in the water and lie on the beach away from the resort scene. A variety of activities are available such as scuba diving, snorkeling, and kiteboarding. The fabulous blue waters conceal unique wonders made easily accessible. Its vast array of marine life makes it an outstanding scenario for open water diving, therefore making the area an ideal place to explore such a colorful submarine world. These are just a few of must-do activities in this part of Mexico.

So I have to admit it’s always been our dream to own a hotel on the beach in a tropical country. We both, my wife and I, come from hardworking middle-class families on the East Coast of the United States. We have lived roughly fifty years working the same nine-to-five, and we’re ready to get out.



We visited Mexico for the first time in the late nineties when, ironically, American Airlines offered a very inexpensive flight there for a span of about two weeks. We jumped at the opportunity, both requested a short leave from work, and flew down to Mexico merely on a whim. After seeing the people, the culture, and the natural beauty of the country, our fascination quickly turned into an obsession.



We have continued to go to Mexico since then and usually aim for a small town called Tulum which sits near the glorified Cancun. We tend to like Tulum for a number of reasons, primarily because the white sand beaches are amongst the best in Mexico and very rarely do you see anyone on them. The small, luxurious hotels that line Tulum’s coast are the perfect fit for us.

So it was only recently, during one of our visits to Mexico that we noticed a sign on one of the resorts that read in English, Hotel for sale Tulum. Seeing this sign might have been the best thing that ever happened to us. From that moment forth, my wife and I became intoxicated by the idea of becoming hotel owners, more specifically, ‘hotel for sale Tulum’ hotel owners.

We inquired about the Hotel for Sale Tulum sign and spoke with a nice man from the United States who listened as we gave him our story. “So we were walking down the beach,” we said, “and the sign, ‘Hotel for Sale Tulum’ just popped out at us.”

Anti-climactically, the hotel for sale Tulum was far out of our price range at five million dollars! But that didn’t stop our search as we looked far and wide, during many long walks on the Tulum beaches, for a new Hotel for Sale Tulum sign of our own.



And then alas, just last May, we found it.



My wife and I decided to quit our jobs, having saved up a decent amount of money selling many of our once-material things that we loved: our cars, our small boat, and our second home. We sold it all in the name of that sign: Hotel for Sale Tulum.



We moved down to Tulum for good, just five months ago to start our new lives as Tulum hotel owners. The feeling is one of liberation and excitement, every day we wake up and see the waves crashing near the hotel steps. We take absolute comfort in meeting new guests every day and relaxing with them by the hotel pool. Thank God we chanced upon this Tulum real estate in the form of the hotel for sale sign!

Though not as grand as Chichen Itza, Tulum still offers a fine example of the Post-classical period of the Mayan Culture and the largest Mayan construction on any coast. The Spanish are believed to have first set eyes on the Mayan coastal fortress, El Castillo, which is believed to have housed 2,000 people at its height and functioned as a trade center. The Spanish never conquered El Castillo, and luckily, the ruins were left standing during the War of the Castes in the 1840’s.

Today, the Mayan ruins in Tulum rank as Mexico’s most visited pre-Hispanic site. Perched atop 40ft limestone cliffs and overlooking the Caribbean and the pure white coastline of Tulum, these Mayan ruins are arguably the Yucatan’s most well restored site.

While visiting the ruins, tourists are also privy to Tulum Beach in all of its pristine beauty and lazy ways. One can walk right down to the white sand beaches directly below the old Mayan Ruins. Here, nestled amongst the ancient ruins and towering cliffs, one can relax in the silky white sands. These beaches are some of Mexico’s finest and all should feel free to stroll down the beach and check out the cabanas or BBQ shacks along the way. Some of these beautiful Cabanas are rentable for nightly, weekly and monthly stays. One should contact these different resorts ahead of time to check for availability.

Also in this area one can take a dip in the Caribbean and experience some great diving and snorkeling. There are numerous different companies throughout the area and one needs only call to make a reservation. At times the water can be very murky and the snorkeling might be mediocre, but this should not hold you back because this is the world’s second largest barrier reef and you have to at least check it out. And if you are not up for diving/snorkeling, maybe you should look into ocean kiteboarding or kitesurfing. There are accompany or two that gives lessons and will let you work on your skills.

Lastly, it is also worth your while to stop by Sian Ka’an Biosphere and Punta Allen just a little down the road. Sian Ka’an Biosphere serves as a model of Ecotourism and sustainable development in tropical ecosystems. This educational center’s income is derived from the tours they offer, the fishing, their accommodations and other activities located on the premises. And with this income, the Sian Ka’an Biosphere is able to conserve and fund the educational programs. Also, it must be noted that the Biosphere utilizes ecologically responsible expertise such as wetland waste management, rainwater collection and Solar and Wind energy.

Located deep in the Mexican forests on the Caribbean coastline, Tulum holds some of the most awesome Mayan ruins to be seen. Mayan Ruins of Tulum are a fantastic site to behold. Its setting on the beach is a true place to declare Heaven. The stunning turquoise water and the bold black cliffs join to create an overwhelming picture. The archaeological site is one of mesmerizing exploration. . Tulum was once one of the greatest cities of Mayan civilization. It was built sometime in the 13th century when the Mayans had existed for at least a thousand years.

After visiting the ruins, there is a great deal of things to do in Tulum. There’s the beach too! This is a paradise for all beach-lovers. A lot of attractions can be found on or near the beach, from scuba diving and snorkeling to kite surfing. Tulum hosts a wide variety of water sports. Scuba divers and snorkelers are fascinated to the beautiful, clear water and the colorful coral reefs of the Caribbean Sea.

The waters of Tulum are incredibly diverse with it’s coral reef, Cenotes, underground rivers, lagoons and bays which are the reasons why there so many snorkeling opportunities. Snorkeling is definitely one of the most handy water sports. Adults and kids will be able to benefit fully from the close proximity of the coral reef of Tulum and its rich aquatic fauna. One must try the snorkeling tour of the cenotes .This might be one of your unforgettable underwater experience.

Kiteboarding or kite surfing is the latest generation of sailing sport, born from a surprising blend of windsurfing, paragliding and wakeboarding, it addicts new participants daily. Tulum and its warm gorgeous water and variety of great spots offer perfect conditions for beginners to experts. Consistent - but not overly strong - winds make Tulum an ideal location for learning kiteboarding. The top wind conditions are between December and July.

Staying in one of the Tulum hotels added the thrill. To be able to visit Tulum is very unique experience. Just a reminder, Tulum is hot in the middle of June. Bring plenty of water and good quality walking shoes. Dress light and if its okay, try to bring wide brim hats.
