Near the modern town of Tulum, 80 miles from Cancun, you will find the glorious, ancient Mayan city of Tulum perched above the shores of the Caribbean. Although the Mayan city of Tulum is small in extent, it is incredibly interesting and its location is gorgeous.

The name Tulum ("wall") refers to the thick walls that surrounds the Mayan site on three sides (cliffs protect it on the Caribbean side). The major edifice in Tulum is the temple known popularly as the Castle which dominates the site. El Castillo is the most outstanding building for its location (constructed on a rock 40 feed from the beach) and its high facade is decorated with serpentine columns, animal figureheads and a descending deity. The city is walled and you can enjoy its various public, civic and religious buildings. Here priests, astronomers, mathematicians, architects and engineers lived, but the common people lived outside of the city walls.

Be sure to bring water, a sun hat, suntan lotion and an umbrella.  Protection from the sun is a necessity, as not only will you be outside a lot, but the sun will be shining at a higher angle than at home and can do damage quickly unless you are lathered up and wearing sun gear. In addition, the inlet has a fine little beach and you just might want to take a swim, so be prepared.  Tulum is a popular site that is on the tour bus circuit, so expect huge crowds most of the season.  If you want good photos, arrive either early in the day or late in the afternoon, when the sun’s rays seem to make Tulum even more magical. Enjoy the beautiful view of the sea from the cliff and observe with care the animals of the region like the iguana and don’t forget to visit the beach where you will without doubt enjoy the Caribbean sea.

The Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve located south of Tulum, was named a UNESCO  World Heritage Site because of its sensitive tropical ecosystems.  The Biosphere Reserve includes tropical forest, mangroves, marshes and a marine section intersected by a barrier reef.  Its habitat contains a remarkable diversity of plants and animals.  The reserve, which is over a million acres in size, is funded by  "limited" tourism.  If you visit, your "contribution" will help sustain the reserve.  There is a lot to see and do, although all of it is related to nature and observing nature.

Tulum is growing in popularity, especially with those who are not attracted to the twenty-four hour a day action and large crowds found in Cancun. The town of Tulum is located 5 minutes from the archaeological zone on both sides of Federal Highway # 307, here you can find supermarkets, craft shops, dive shops, tour operators to the cenotes, fishing and ecological reserve Sian Kaan. If you want to stay on the beach , the Tulum hotel zone is your best bet .You will love Tulum for its great sunbathing, good quality diving and snorkeling, an abundance of water sports.

The mere mention of Tulum conjures images of Mayan Ruins and magnificent beaches.  But, is there anything beyond these popular places that is worth discovering?

After spending three days in and around Tulum, the answers came to me. Think of discovering a world-class Tulum hotel accommodation, serene island retreats, beautiful nature walks, indigenous cultural encounters, sumptuous food and even wild plants that can be seen only in Tulum.

Named after the 3 enormous walls and a steep cliff which surrounds the obtruding civilization, this wall house was given the honorary name of Tulum, the walled Mayan City. It is located in the east coast of Yucatan Peninsula on the Caribbean Sea, in the state of Quintana Roo, and just an hour South of Cancun, Mexico. Tulum pueblo has a collection of small hotels located in the heart of town or close to the mayan archaeological site, which offer greater mobility to the traveler who wants to explore the mayan culture or the surrounding cenotes and parks. When does business meeting become a vacation? That’s the question I answered when it is unveiled simultaneously in the paradise of Tulum. Tulum is on the Yucatan Peninsula, in Mexico. It is one of the earliest resorts in Mexico, offering a place of worship and solitude for the Mayan Kings, clergy and gods in early time. Most of the Yucatan peninsula is low-lying, knotted scrub in the north and opaque jungle in the wetter south. The coast of the Yucatan has some fine beaches, and the heat here is tempered by the winds of the Caribbean.

The tourist destination is now divided into three main areas: the archaeological site, the pueblo or town, and the hotel zone.

Tulum hotels at the pueblo are approximately 3 kilometers away from the beachfront. So, inland Tulum accommodation can still offer guests a fast way to the town’s famous Caribbean beaches. A hotel in town where we stayed has unique design that captivates attention of each visitor. Hotel room has an alcove sitting window which gives tourist a cozy nook to relax in while reading a book or indulging in some me-time at the end of the day. Additionally, each sitting window is framed with sun shades and when you need quality time other than a beach, you can just relax in the infinity pool or in the wet lounge surrounded by an exquisite garden. Tulum pueblo is indeed a destination for shopping, great restaurants, a modest night life, booking tours, banking, shopping for food, local vegetables, fruits, cafes, and local flavor.

If you are staying on the beach and trying to save money, it is wise to stock up on food and drinks in the pueblo because there are not too many restaurant options on the beach and are comparatively quite expensive. Strip of beach lined with hotels or small cabanas was characterized by their unique and personalized services given in their little beach clubs, restaurants, rooms services, spas, yoga studios and cocktail bars. Staying in Tulum in a day is not enough for Scuba diving, Snorkeling, experiencing San ka’an adventure, Mayan Inland expedition, kayak bird watching and whale shark tour. Not just that, It’s so nice waking up to the sound of the Caribbean Sea gently lapping the shore and generally forget about anything else other than relaxation.

Those who are looking for peace and total relaxation will be happy in Tulum hotels. Personnel’s in Tulum hotels will offer a pleasant welcome home feeling and enthusiastically gives tips of great places to go.
